As students held their breath in hopes of winning a new car during Friday’s pep rally at Troup High School, five teachers, four students and a parent made their own donation to Children With Hair Loss.

Each of the nine volunteers had 8 inches of their hair cut off by cosmetologists from LaGrange Barber Shop, who donated their time and talent for the cause.

“We all wanted to not only help out children in need, but to encourage others to give of themselves also,” said Chance Giddens, a teacher at Troup High School. “Plus, we are all looking forward to having shorter hair for what is sure to be a hot summer.”

The hair will be used by Children With Hair Loss to create wigs for children who have lost their hair to burns, cancer treatments and other ailments.

“These people are volunteering to have 8 inches of their hair cut off, and this is going to be used for about three wigs for children that are receiving cancer treatments, that have had burns and other ailments,” Assistant Principal Jason Graham said.
