LaGrange man arrested for armed robbery

A LaGrange man was arrested Thursday night in connection to an alleged armed robbery, according to the LaGrange Police Department.

Leon A. Clay, 38, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes.

At about 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, officers from the LPD responded to 601 Harwell Avenue in LaGrange were called about an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers spoke with two victims who stated they were robbed at gunpoint by an unknown black male.

The two victims say the male forced them to give up their cell phones by pointing the firearm at them. Authorities say the male then left the area and entered a nearby residence.

According to a news release from the LPD, officers went to this residence and spoke to a man identified as Clay. An investigation by the Criminal Investigation Section revealed Clay was responsible for the robbery, and he was arrested and taken to the Troup County Jail.
