Donald Franklin Moore

1936-2020

Donald Franklin Moore was born on April 10, 1936, in Troup County, Georgia, where he lived all of his life. He was the son of Robert “Cooter” Moore and Frances Adams Moore. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Jean Riddle. Don attended Troup County schools and graduated from Center High School in 1954. Don was an active member of 4H and often raised livestock for show.

Don married his high school sweetheart Dorothy “Dot” Foreman in 1955. They were married until Dot passed away in 2016.  Don began work as a teenager at Callaway Mills (later Milliken) and worked his way up through the company, advancing to the position of Senior Processing Engineer.  Don retired in 1999 after 43 years.  After retirement, Don worked as a caretaker at Rosemont Baptist Church.

Throughout his adult life, Don served actively in the local church. He began at East Vernon Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent and taught the Junior High Boys Class. After the family moved to Pine Mountain, Georgia in 1981, he became a member of Pine Mountain First Baptist Church where he filled many of the same roles. In the mid ‘90s, Don and Dot became members at Rosemont Baptist Church and actively participated in their Sunday School class for many years. Don served the church as a Deacon and volunteered at Wednesday night fellowship.

Don and Dot loved to travel and were proud to have visited all 50 states. Don was an avid gardener, and loved to tend to his yard, flowers and plants. He had a real “green thumb” and showed an amazing knack for turning a few seeds into a great harvest to share with friends and neighbors. Don was an avid collector and amassed an assortment of unique antiques and one-of-a-kind collectibles.

Above all his interests, Don was most proud of his family and being a provider for Dot and their five children: Bobby (Sue) Moore, Susan (William) Austin, Bruce (Kathy) Moore, Shari (Reggie) Dixon, and Shelia (Paul) Tate.  He is survived by his children and 15 grandchildren – Melissa, Brian, Heather, Lacie, Savannah, Houston, Cameron, Leslie, Matthew, Naomi, Cory, Josiah, McKay, Griffin, Jill; six great grandchildren and many devoted friends.

The gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
