After a slow first quarter, the LaGrange boys basketball team turned the game on its head and routed Burke County 74-59 on the road Wednesday to advance to the second round of the state playoffs.
The Granger offense struggled to get anything going in the first quarter, scoring just nine points which meant LaGrange trailed by six points heading to the second quarter in a hostile environment.
It was all Grangers from there with the offense sparking to life in the second quarter. The turnaround was a complete team effort with seven different Grangers scoring in the quarter.
This allowed the Grangers to take a 29-25 lead into halftime.
LaGrange came out of the other side of the break scorching hot, totalling 32 points in the third quarter to completely blow the game open. Once again it was not an individual, but the entire team leading the way with seven scorers in the third quarter as well.
LaGrange was able to take a 20 point lead after their third quarter surge and never looked back as the Bears had no way back into the game.
LaGrange was led in scoring by Devin Dowll and J’Arthur Dunn who totalled 14 points apiece. Garrett Jacobsen scored 11 points while Mydarius Scott and BJ Wortham finished with nine points each.
LaGrange will head to the second round of the playoffs after bowing out of the playoffs in the first round a season ago. The Grangers will travel to Baldwin High School on Friday or Saturday for the second round of the state playoffs.
