A man arriving to a home in the 200 block of Niles Street about 10:30 p.m. Thursday was arrested after LaGrange police said he was driving on a suspended license and had marijuana in the car.

Officers were looking for a wanted person when they recognized the driver, who they knew was not supposed to be behind the wheel.

Once officers approached the driver, they allegedly smelled marijuana and spotted a clear baggie with the suspected drug in the driver’s side door compartment, states a police report. Another bag of suspected marijuana was also found in the backseat floorboard within reach of the driver, police said.

The man was arrested and charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and driving on a suspended license, both misdemeanors.

Air-conditioning unit stolen

A woman returned home about 1:15 p.m. Thursday to find someone had stolen her Kenmore 580 air-conditioning unit, said LaGrange police.

The homeowner told officers this was the first time she had been back to the residence since July 22. She said the rear door of the house was not locked.

The victim estimated the cost of the unit was about $200.
