James Woodson “Woody” Mangram

Mr. James Woodson “Woody” Mangram, 90, of LaGrange died on Thursday July 13, 2017 at West Georgia Hospice.

Mr. Mangram was born May 14, 1927 in Chambers County, Al., son of the late Mr. D.C. Mangram and Mrs. Mary “Dyer” Mangram.  He previously was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Western Heights Baptist Church, where he was Sunday School Superintendent for over 25 years. Mr. Mangram was a member of the First Baptist Church on the Square and was employed as a salesman for the Sara Lee Corp for 36 years.  Mr. Mangram was also an employee of Sunday Dinner and Kinnett Dairies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Van Mangram.

Mr. Mangram is remembered as a wonderful husband, father grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He loved to fish, garden, camp and was an active member of the Troup County Senior Center.  Mr. Mangram and his wife enjoyed square dancing with the LaGrange Shufflers.

Survivors include his daughters, Joy Sherrer (Chuck) of Pine Mountain, Elaine Yancey (Jerry) of LaGrange; grandchildren, Mary Anna Wilson (Robert), Libby Corbitt (Jody), James Yancey, Jeremy Sherrer and Grant Sherrer (Courtney); great grandchildren, Tanner and Nate Wilson, Kade, Cam and Colt Corbitt.

The Gathering of family and friends will be 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. prior to the service at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Dr. Paul Baxter officiating. Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
