Wilson Evan Pippin, a gifted musician cherished by family and friends for his warm personality and kind, gentle spirit, died Aug. 29 at his home in Charleston, S.C. He was 36.

Wilson was born Dec. 18, 1982 in Brewton, Ala. and graduated from Union High School in Union, S.C. and Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., where he received a business degree in 2005.

He moved to Charleston to pursue a career in music, the passion of his life. Respected as a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, he played electric, acoustic, electric bass and electric steel guitar, stand-up bass, mandolin, banjo, drums and harmonica.

Following his death, friends celebrated his life and honored his contributions to the music industry with the Wilson Pippin Memorial Jam, held Oct. 1 in Charleston.

Survivors include his parents, David M. (Mike) Pippin and Barbara Wilson (Babs) Pippin; his brother, Michael Alexander Pippin; his grandmother, Peggy Armstrong and his niece, Mary Alex Pippin, all of LaGrange; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Evan Pippin and the late Edward D. Wilson Jr.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of First United Methodist Church of LaGrange with the Rev. Ben Wills officiating.
