Two people found themselves in handcuffs Saturday night when LaGrange police said they eluded a safety check point about 10:45 p.m. Saturday and fled from officers.

The check point was set up at the intersection of Polk and Handley streets.

According to police, a female driving a red 2012 Toyota Camry turned right on Polk Street and kept going, despite officers telling her to stop the car.

One officer managed to catch up to her in his patrol car on Polk near Lindsey streets, the police report states.

Police said a passenger inside the Camry jumped out and took off on foot. He was later captured by other officers.

The woman told police she drove away from the safety check point because the male told her to keep going and she was scared. She also claimed not to know the passenger and was just giving him a ride, the report states.

The driver was arrested and charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, both misdemeanors.

Officers said when she arrived at the jail, deputies also found a bag of marijuana on her and she was also charged with marijuana possession.

The male was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement and obstruction.

It was valued at $2,200.
