Miss Betty Jean Blackburn, age 89. of LaGrange, passed away on December 14, 2019 at the WellStar West Georgia Hospice. Ms. Blackburn was born on July 19, 1930 in Walnut Grove, North Carolina to the late Dr. Herman Eugene Blackburn and Helen Morgan Blackburn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia B. Murphey.  Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Brad Murphey (Sheri) of Newnan, Hutch Murphey (Mary Jane) of Newnan, A.B. Taylor of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, Sally Morgan (Harrel) of Altamonte Springs, Florida; numerous great nieces and nephew; numerous great great nieces and nephews. Miss Blackburn was a graduate of LaGrange College and worked and retired as a Banking Officer with Citizen and Southern Bank of West Georgia. She was a member of the First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class and involved in the Bereavement Ministry and the History Committee. She volunteered at Hospice LaGrange and was a member of the LaGrange Woman’s Club, the Historical Society and the LaGrange Cotillion Club. Graveside services were held on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. am at the Shadowlawn Cemetery with Rev. Paul Blair officiating. Family and friends assembled at the graveside.
