West Point Police Chief Tony Bailey was recognized for his years of service at the West Point City Council meeting Tuesday night. Bailey is moving to Powder Springs, where he will serve as police chief of the Powder Springs Police Department.
Mayor Pro Tem Steve Tramell presented Bailey a plaque thanking him for his service and leadership at the department and the city.
Bailey said it was a bittersweet moment because he loves the local community.
“The mayor and council have been wonderful to work with, the men and women at the police department and this community as a whole,” Bailey said. “I know in theory we’re going back home (to Powder Springs), back to where we’re from, but we’re also leaving a home.”
He said he’ll make sure to come back and visit.
“We have a second home, so we’ll be back. We’ll be back to visit and at least come play,” he said. “It will be a lot of fun.”
Bailey will be sworn in as the police chief for the Powder Springs Police Department Monday, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
