A minor was arrested at Troup County High School Thursday for allegedly violating Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act for possessing less than an ounce of marijuana.
According to the LaGrange Police Department report, an administrator was called to a classroom to remove the 17-year-old after a teacher said she smelled burnt marijuana on the student’s person.
According to the police report, the administrator asked the student if they had anything in their possession they shouldn’t. The student said no.
After searching the student’s bookbag, the administrator found a Mason jar containing marijuana. The police said the administrator then contacted the school resource officer, and the student admitted to the officer it was their marijuana.
Yolanda Stephen, Troup County director of public relations said in a statement that the administration is cooperating with the LPD.
“We turned all information over to the LaGrange Police Department and are cooperating with them as they conduct a full investigation,” Stephen said.
