Valentine’s Day may have passed this year, but residents of Troup County can give love to dogs at the 14 Dimes 4 Love event Saturday. The LaGrange Troup Humane Society is holding an event where, for 14 dimes, people can give dog treats to their and LaGrange Animal Control’s adoptable dogs.

“All of the dogs will have valentine’s boxes so people can come through and can put the valentines in the box,” said Mandi Bono, the executive director of the local Humane Society. “All of the humane society dogs also have valentines to take from the dogs, so you can come in and put the treat in the box and take a valentine from the dog that you like.”

About 50 to 70 dogs will be featured at the event, according to Bono.

“This is our second [event], it was a huge hit last year,” she said. “It raised more than $350 for the humane society, and we had about 75 or 85 people turn out last year.”

The event will also have a K-9 meet and greet with the LaGrange Police Department and Kona Ice, Bono said.

People should come to the event because it’s something the whole family can do, Bono said.

“Ultimately, I think the biggest reason to come out is it’s an inexpensive family friendly community event,” she said. “This is the second year that we’ve done it, and we’re looking to make it a regular annual event for all of Troup County.”

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Humane Society on 1390 Orchard Hill Road.

If you’re not much of a dog person, but like to dance, the LaGrange Active Life Center is holding a country dance night Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Jimmy Smith and the New River Band will play. The event is open to adults of all ages and is $6 a person.

Pure Life Studios is hosting Writers Round, which will feature Georgian songwriters Anji, Jay Elle and Josh Purgason Friday night. The song writer’s genres include pop, indie and rock. Tickets are $10 and the doors open at 6:30 p.m. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

If you haven’t been to Sweetland on Ice yet to go skating, the last day of the season is Monday. Tickets are $10 per skater and includes rental skates. To see when it’s open this weekend, visit Icedays.com/lagrange/schedule/.
