A LaGrange man was arrested for marijuana possession after allegedly fighting a police officer during a traffic stop Wednesday on New Franklin Road near Alton Drive.

According to the police report, an LPD officer observed a Georgia State Patrol trooper conduct a traffic stop.

While speaking to the driver, the officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

According to the police report, the officer noticed Kendronne Tiggs, 36, moving in the backseat like he was concealing something. The officer saw marijuana on Tiggs’ person and told him to stop moving.

While the GSP trooper dealt with the driver, the LPD officer dealt with Tiggs.

After getting Tiggs out of the vehicle, police attempted to search Tiggs’ person. According to the police report, Tiggs jerked away from police and attempted to run from them as they handcuffed him.

Police attempted to get Tiggs to the ground and he repeatedly slapped and shoved and officer, according to the police report. The officer grabbed Tiggs’ shirt and pulled it, causing it to tear several times as he repeatedly tried to grab ahold of him to keep him from running.

According to the police report, the officer grabbed Tiggs around the waist and took him to the ground, but Tiggs caught his fall with both hands and freed himself from police. Tiggs then ran to Alton Drive and into the backyard of a residence after jumping a fence.

The officer soon found Tiggs lying down near the brush and handcuffed him, according to the police report.

Tiggs told the officer where he left the marijuana, but it could not be found, according to the police report. The officer noticed the smell of marijuana on Tiggs’ breath and he was taken to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center before being transferred to Troup County Jail.

According to Troup County Jail arrest/release reports, Tiggs was charged with simple battery of a police officer, obstruction and tampering with evidence.
