Incumbent Morris Jones has announced his intention to run for re-election as District 4 Troup County Commissioner.

“I am pleased and excited to announce my bid for re-election to the Board of Commissioners, representing District 4 where I have resided for 41 years,” Jones said.

Since his last re-election in 2016, Jones said he is proud of the accomplishments made by the county commission, including the paving of approximately 69 miles of roads, the construction of Tom Hall Parkway, the purchase of four new Fire Engines for the Fire Department and improvements to Parks and Recreation facilities throughout Troup County.

Jones said his record proves that he is and will continue to be a conservative voice for progress and growth in Troup County, and he will continue to support the spirit of cooperation between all the local governing bodies in LaGrange, West Point and Hogansville.

Jones’ ties run deep in Troup County.  He was raised in the Big Springs Community. After graduating from LaGrange High School, he attended Abraham Baldwin College and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1974. After graduation, he returned to Troup County to work in the family timber and cattle business, Jones Bros. Inc. and Jones Bros. Farms Inc.

He and his wife Zelda have two sons, Jake and Dustin, a daughter-in-law Liz Jones, and two grandsons Julian and Harrison. He is a member of First Presbyterian Church where he has served as a deacon and elder. Jones has served many community organizations including Two Rivers RC&D Council, where he currently serves as treasurer, Troup County Farm Bureau Insurance Board, the Troup County Parks and Recreation Board and is a volunteer at the Yolanda Jabaley Clothing Center. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of LaGrange, where he is a Paul Harris Fellow.
